Drake's “God's Plan” Just Made RIAA History With A 2X Diamond Certification

Drake's “God's Plan” has officially entered another level of music history, becoming the first solo song in Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) history to earn a 2x Diamond certification. That's the equivalent of 20 million certified units for one track, and yes, the numbers are genuinely ridiculous.

Released in 2018, “God's Plan” was already one of the defining hits of Drake's career. It spent 11 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, dominated streaming, and became known for a music video that saw Drake give away nearly $1 million to people and organizations in Miami. The song was everywhere, and apparently the streaming era has made sure it stayed there.

The milestone builds on the track's earlier Diamond certification in 2019, when it became Drake's first solo song to reach that threshold. RIAA Diamond status represents 10 million certified units, with sales and eligible streams counted toward the total, so 2x Diamond means the equivalent of 20 million units. “God's Plan” has now doubled down on a record it already held. >

Drake has accumulated a huge collection of Diamond-certified hits over the years, but this achievement is a different kind of flex because it belongs to a solo song reaching the double-Diamond mark first. Nearly eight years after its release, “God's Plan” is still finding new ways to make history. God's plan, apparently, included a LOT of streams.
